Assignment Content

  1. Assignment:

Review MyHistoryLab: Drama: Antigone, by Sophocles, c. 441 B.C.E.

    2.

Based on the Apologywrite a scene for a Greek play, complete with a chorus to act as the jury, and two to three main characters.

    • The play should be about the trial of Socrates.
    • The scene must answer the question: Is speculating on physical or human causes for events an offense against the gods?
    • The theme of your play must be taken from Plato’s description of the accusations against Socrates.
    • It should be at least 525 words and reflect your thoughts on how Greek society viewed the role of the individual.

Include at least two images of a mask to display the actors’ emotions. These should be authentic to the time period. Your scene and the image(s) are what you should submit for this assignment.

I’m attaching three samples of Greek plays from past classes that you can use for reference. Each of these submissions is strong in a different way, so please do not take any one team’s play as a model of perfection. These samples are just for those struggling to see what is possible, how to form the assignment, etc.
