Housing inequality impacts each of us in different ways. Whether we “come” from upper- or middle-class
neighborhoods or low-income/working-class communities, we have each experienced the impacts of what
we’ve read and learned about in this course first-hand, likely in a different way. For this mid-term prospectus
and final paper, you do not have to focus on your own “home” community, but you are welcome to.
Choose a neighborhood, community, region, or area to focus on. Consider how historical policies and practices
have shaped the lives of those within the chosen space, for better and/or for worse. Use course materials, as
well as the resources available to you through the students will submit either a 7 to 8-page paper on their research findings.
policies/practices; any early cases of black wealth creation; erasure of Black wealth during Jim Crow through
race riots or terrorism; implementation of federal/state/local policies in housing; local social practices;
contemporary housing/spatial issues.
