Summary paper written answering two questions

1. Question 1: What are the most important points of the article?
Answer this question by providing a 400-word summary of the article. The summary
covers the most important points of the article and only covers the information in the
article. The main themes of the article should be covered with supporting evidence.
Your evaluation, opinion, or extraneous information do not belong in the summary.
Cover only what is in the article. The summary of the article must be IN YOUR OWN
WORDS. Do not copy from the article or other sources, do not use any quotations (even
if properly cited) and do not paraphrase. If you have questions about what terms you
can use from the article or other sources, ask me. The word count does not includes intext citations.
The summary should
The summary should include the following:
• The purpose of the article. Read the article carefully and decide why the author or
authors wrote the article about the topic area. The purpose sets the stage for the
main points of the article.
Researchers write this type of article to evaluate the relevant literature. Their
article is designed to inform us about the current state of knowledge about the
research area.
• The main points of the article. Read the article several times and keep a list of the
most important points of the article. These should be included in the summary.
The summary has a word limit which means that you decide what is the most
important information to cover.
• The conclusions of the author(s). The article will end with some ideas about the
meaning of the research, and/or what research needs to be done next. Include
them in the summary.
Length and style: The summary should be as close to 400 words as possible. If you go
over or under 400 words you will lose points. For exact word count numbers see the
grading rubric for the final submission of the summary paper.
The summary should be written in paragraph form with transitions between the
paragraphs. Follow APA (American Psychological Association) style for the citation
format and the writing style. The current version of the Publication Manual of the
American Psychological Association is the 7th edition. There is a link to Academic Writer,
which covers APA style, in the course menu in the Blackboard course.

Question 2. How does course material apply to the main points of the article?
Examine the course material to find the answer to this question. Identify 2 different
concepts in the text that apply to the article. It is permissible to use any previous,
current, or future course material. A concept is defined as a term that would be listed in
the glossary, a concept that is part of a major theory (i.e., scaffolding, egocentrism, etc.),
or a concept that is part of a major theme or topic area (i.e., epigenetics, naturalistic
observation, domain-specific learning mechanism, etc.). The concept should not be an
entire major theory (i.e., Piaget’s theory, learning theory, etc.) or the topic for an entire
chapter in the text (i.e., language development, emotional development, etc.). Check
with me if you have questions after you select your concepts.
Make sure your concepts come from different chapters. One concept will be addressed
in Part A and the other in Part B.
Divide the answer to question 2 into Part A and Part B. Part A identifies one of the
concepts and explains how material in the textbook is related to the main points in the
article. Describe how you evaluated course material and article material to write the
best explanation for the relationship or connection between the concept and the main
points of the article. The answer should not include speculation or conjecture.
Part B repeats the process described above for the second concept. Remember the
second concept comes from a different chapter.
Consistency, coherence, and an in-depth evaluation are necessary. Stick to the concept
that you have identified. Opinion should not be included. The entire answer must be in
your own words.
Part A and Part B should include the page numbers in the text (or if you are using the ebook include the section numbers) that cover the concept selected.
Length and style: Each Part (Part A and Part B) should be a minimum of 200 words.
That is Part A is 200 words or more and Part B is 200 words or more. This is in addition
to the 400-word summary. Follow APA style (7th edition). Academic Writer cover
