This paper provides you an opportunity to apply the sociological concepts and theories of Marx to a social phenomenon of your choice. What aspects of the social phenomenon can and cannot be explained by this theory? Be specific. In your paper, you should explain the concepts and theory in your own words, and support your claims with reference to specific passages in the original texts we have read. Be sure to include citations in your paper throughout. What are your critiques of the theory? What might you add to this theory to better explain the social phenomenon at hand?
Your paper should be 5-6 pages long (typed, 12-point font, double-spaced), not including the title page. Your paper should also include a reference page, with complete, accurate references. All citations and references should be in ASA (American Sociological Association) style format.
Your paper will be graded on the following criteria:
- Organization and clarity of content. Be sure your paper has an introduction that tells the reader what your paper is about and why it is important. Your paper should also have a conclusion that is more than just a summary of the paper.
- A demonstrated understanding of the theory used. You must explain the theory in your own words, and support your claims with reference to specific passages in the original writing of the theorist. Be sure to include citations in your paper throughout.
- Thoughtful application, evaluation, and critique of the sociological theories.
- Paper is of sufficient length (5-6 pages, typed, double-spaced, 12 point font) not including the title or reference pages.
- Paper is proofread for grammar and spelling.
