Rather than working on the Introduction to the Study in its entirety, I want to only focus on the Problem Statement for now. Post Problem Statement only in discussion for the week. NO assignments due this Sunday (Feb 27).
Impact of situation leadership on teacher retention on title one campuses
*****PLEASE READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS****
STUDY: Impact of situational leadership on teacher retention in title 1 campuses.
Ask these questions and provide evidence in the narrative:
Who says the topic is a problem and why? educational policy makers and district leaders
Who should care and why? all educational stakeholders
Who is affect the problem and why?
What should be done to address the problem and why?
It is not known nor to what affect (state the topic) has on …….
The Research Problem
According to Creswell and Creswell (2018), the research problem arises from difficulties and current practices in real-life situations. The research problem in a study begins to become clear when the researcher asks,
What is the need for the study? To explore solutions to help retain teachers
What problem influenced the need to undertake the study? Low teacher retention on the most challenging campues
Research Tips for Writing the Research Problem
Write an opening sentence that will stimulate reader interest
Limit the use of long quotations
Paraphrase the research
Consider numeric information for impact (e.g., “Johnson, reported that every year, an estimate 5 million Americans experience the death of an immediate family member”(p. 34)
Clearly identify the research problem (i.e., dilemma, issue) leading to the study.
Ask yourself, “Is there a specific sentence (or sentences) in which I can convey the research problem?
Indicate with research why the problem is important citing references that justify the need to study the problem.
Make sure that the problem is framed in a manner consistent with the approach to research in the study (e.g., exploratory in qualitative, examining relationships, or predictors in quantitative and both approaches in mixed methods inquiry.
Consider and write about whether there is a single problem involved in the proposed study or multiple problems that lead to a need for the study. Often multiple research problems are addressed in research studies (Creswell, J. W., & Creswell, J. D., 2018, p. 5)
Characteristics of a Good Research Problem
It should:
address a gap in knowledge
be significant enough to contribute to the existing body of reach
lead to further research
render itself to investigation through collection and analysis of data
be of interest to the researcher (Bwisa, 2018. n.p.).
The Problem Statement
Joyner et al. (2018) acknowledge that the problem statement is narrower than the research problem. In general, the researcher moves from a research topic to a research problem and then to a problem statement. The statement of the problem addresses the question: What is the problem that the researcher will address?Rather than working on the Introduction to the Study in its entirety, I want to only focus on the Problem Statement for now.
