The aim of this paper is to explore the impact of technological change on climate change mitigation, using a comparative political economy approach. Following the conventional approach in the literature, we begin with a ″shared shock″: technological change.
We derive theoretical expectations of the impact of tech change on climate change mitigation according to the Varieties of Capitalism (VoC) theory (source: Varieties of Capitalism and Technological Innovation for Climate Change Mitigation, by Mikler and Harrison).
We then collect empirical evidences (like country-based data) and expert opinions, both in favor AND AGAINST the theoretical expectations.
Given that this analysis will reveal divergent opinions and differences between theoretical expectations and empirical evidences, we will explore possible explanatory factors for this divergence (e.g., there may be other factors, like globalization and cultural norms, playing a key role).
