Indigenous Criminal Justice- Research Ways the Government continues to colonize Indigenous people

The proposed research will demonstrate the impacts of colonization on Indigenous people and argue that colonizing Indigenous land is still an ongoing process. To help prove this argument, twelve reliable sources will be used to verify and provide examples to support these conclusions.

The paper will be written on a narrow topic of your choosing, based on the themes
which have arisen in the course. Please avoid writing about the over-representation of
Indigenous people in the criminal justice system, as we have covered that topic in some
detail already. The paper will include an introduction to your topic, a concise thesis
statement, a critical discussion of material from at least twelve (12) sources (previously
outlined in your annotated bibliography), and a concluding argument.
 The sources you choose must include legal cases, scholarly sources such as peer-
reviewed journal articles, books (or book chapters), two of the assigned course
readings, and up to two credible online sources. In addition, please include up to three
sources from Indigenous communities or organizations.
 Your paper will be fifteen to eighteen (15-18) double-spaced pages long; no more, no
less, not including the cover page, footnotes, and bibliography. There should be no spaces
between paragraphs and the document margins should be set at Normal.
 Your paper must be written in Times New Roman 12-point font, including the cover
page material, and should be submitted in Word document format only.
 The cover page should include the following information: a unique title centered on the
page (in Times New Roman 12-point font, no bold), and, in the bottom left corner of the
page, your name, your student number, the name and number of the course, the name of
the professor, the assignment (Research Essay), and the date on which you submit.
 The paper will use correct McGill citation only. Footnotes must be in 10-point font.
There should be no running head of any kind appearing at the top of the paper, but you
may include pagination. Keep in mind that, in McGill citation format, entries in the
Bibliography appear as Last Name, First Name (as opposed to the way they appear in the
footnotes.)
 You may not copy your own work from your in-class presentation paper, but you may
use the external source(s) that you chose to discuss for the in-class presentation.
 Headings are allowed for this paper. The paper will be written on a narrow topic of your choosing, based on the themes

References from mass media are sometimes acceptable, but keep these to a minimum and do not give them the weight that a scientific journal article would have. Be wary of online resources such as Wikipedia. Such websites may lead you to reputable scholarly research articles; however, many online resources, themselves, are not peer-reviewed, which is a standard scientific benchmark for reliable research.
