Learning Goal: I’m working on a writing question and need guidance to help me learn.

Option 2: Susan’s Dilemma

After reading the introduction this week, think about Susan’s situation and respond to the following:(NO MORE THAN 5 -6SENTENSES)

  • Describe how Susan’s situation relates to what you learned this week about work experience.
  • What should Susan do to create a stronger resume? What tips could you give her about doing her job search?
  • Responses to Other Learners(NOMORE THAN 3 SENTENSES)

Respond to at least two other learner’s posts. Here are some questions to get you started in your responses:

    • How are this learner’s thoughts the same as yours?
    • How are this learner’s thoughts different from yours?
    • What questions do you have that this learner could answer?
    • What words of advice could you offer this learner?
  • the Implications-SUSANS DILEMA

Before moving forward with her plan, Susan wants her friends to pick holes in her plan. She forms her arguments carefully, paying attention to her evidence.

“The Cargill Academy has a proven track record of helping troubled teens,” Susan says. “The state reports that 99 percent of its alumni reach the age of 30 without another criminal offense.â€

Christy offers a counterargument. “The Cargill Academy may have a proven track record with reducing criminal offenses, but the Juvenile Protection Watchgroup says that their alumni have increased anxiety and depression issues.â€

“The same group also says that the teens with anxiety and depression were the ones who entered the academy with a drug problem, Susan rebuts.

“Can you afford it? Juan asks. “Boarding schools are pricey.

“I think it’s a good plan,” Mike says. Susan nods and submit the application. Then she realizes that she has only been planning on the cost for a semester, not the whole year.

Depressed about money, Susan sends out her resume to more employers wondering why nobody ever calls her for an interview.

Looking Ahead

This week, we look at how to pursue jobs with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. As you complete your work, think of Susan’s experience. What should Susan do to create a stronger resume? What tips could you give her about doing her job search?

LEARNER-1 think Susan took a big first step just by submitting her resume. It can be discouraging to not get call backs for interviews and go weeks on end of not hearing back. I believe the perfect opportunity will come when the time is right. A way that Susan can improve her resume is by tailoring her resume to the target position, A resume is not a “one size fits all” type of document. It is important to add achievements and awards. Finally, it is highly important to triple check the resume before submitting it. You do not want any errors. Susan going back to school will also look good on a resume. Going back to school on a resume shows commitment which I believe employers like to see. I think Susan is heading down the right path.

LEARNER 2-In this weeks readings, Susan is still struggling with finding a job. I would start by asking Susan if she is tailoring her resume to the particular job she is applying to. Is Susan showcasing her achievements and qualities that make her a good candidate for the position she is applying for? Susan needs to be patient as she builds her own set of skills. Also, I’d ask Susan if she has any recommendation letters and if she doesn’t she should look onto people she has worked with in the past and ask them for letters. Before interviewing Susan should also learn as much as she can about the company and familiarize herself with the job duties.

Susan has personal family issues going on in her life that can sometimes affect our energy or just plain attitude. Even though we try our hardest to hide it, sometimes people can pick up on our negativity and be turned off.
