Discussion post

Class discussion: Confidentiality

The National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) states, “We shall treat child assessment information confidentially and share this information only when there is a legitimate need for it. We shall maintain confidentiality and shall respect the family’s right to privacy, refraining from disclosure of confidential information and intrusion into family life.”

Why do you think confidentiality of child assessment information and general information about children and families is so important?

Instructions for posting: Be sure to create a new thread when you post your original response with your name in it. When replying to other students, please post on their original thread and address them by name.

(NOTE: A “thread” is a new “post”. To post on the same “thread”, click “reply” on another students post.

When writing your post, be sure to write in complete sentences and utilize paragraphs to give structure to your work. You will be graded on the writing itself as well as answering all required areas of the post.

6 points for your post
4 points for meaningful response to at least TWO classmates’ posts. Always include the classmate’s name in the reply.  A meaningful response is one that reflects on the other classmate’s answer, adds some personal information or knowledge,  asks a question and is NOT just an “agreement” statement or a “praise” statement.

Grammar counts – This is a college level course and you are expected to write at a college level. Use complete sentences and pay attention to spelling. Do not write like you would in a text message. One point deducted for 2 or more grammar/spelling errors.

Good meaningful response: “Karen, you mentioned in your post that you have a cousin with attention problems. You noticed that he doesn’t want to eat with the family and only wants to play on his phone. I have a cousin who has the same issues. My Aunt started to set a timer on his phone and then give him a list of other things to do…”

Poor responses:  “I agree with your statement. I like what you said.” (No points will be given.)

Late submissions are not accepted.
