Mental health stigmas within families can prohibit patients from receiving proper healthcare treatment

Writers rely on secondary research for a variety of reasons.  They can research to explore the history and context of an issue in order to be informed and provide background for themselves and possibly their audience; they can research to explore the multiple viewpoints or positions stakeholders have on an issue; and/or they can research to find evidence relevant to their or others’ positions on the issue.

Once you have selected sources that you think will provide helpful information for your research paper, you can sift through those sources for relevant material.

This may be very new to you, but don’t worry. If you carefully follow the steps on the  template you will do well.

.  Compose your annotated bibliography using the template below.

Annotated Bibliography Evaluation Criteria

  • All annotations are thoughtful, complete, and well written. Annotations are well-developed and clearly explained.    50 pts.
  • Citations are formatted correctly in the document using APA 7th edition and include all necessary and available information.   25 pts.

I need to add the research paper that goes along with the Bibliography. The paper itself I would need by August 15 2023 by 12:00 pm

You will use your newly grouped notes to help you complete this next step:Composing Your Outline

Overview: Outline Structure

Introduction/Context

Your introduction provides context to your readers to prepare them for your paper’s argument or purpose.  An introduction should begin with discussion of your specific topic (not a broad background overview) and provide just enough context (definitions of key terms, for example) to prepare your readers for your thesis or purpose statement.

Thesis/Purpose Statement

A thesis or purpose statement should come at the end of your introduction and state clearly and concisely what the purpose or central argument of your paper is. The introduction prepares your reader for this statement, and the rest of the paper follows in support of it.

Background

After the initial introduction, background on your topic often follows. This paragraph helps to introduce your audience to any needed information to understand the importance of your topic.

Major & Minor Points

Major points (Topic Sentences) are the building blocks of your paper. Major points build on each other, moving the paper forward and toward its conclusion. Each major point should be a clear claim that relates to the central argument of your paper.

Minor points (Supporting Details) are subtopics within your major points. Minor/Details points develop the nuances of your major points but may not be significant enough to warrant extended attention on their own. These may come in the form of statistics, examples from your sources, or supporting ideas.

The rest of the body of your paper will be made up of more major and minor points. Each major point should advance the paper’s central argument, often building on the previous points, until you have provided enough evidence and analysis to justify your paper’s conclusion.

ConclusionYour conclusion both restates your paper’s major claim and ties that claim into a larger discussion. Rather than simply reiterating each major and minor point, quickly revisit your thesis statement and focus on ending the paper by tying your thesis into current research in your field, next steps for other researchers, your broader studies, or other future implications.

Patient-Provider Communication: Communicating Across Cultures

As healthcare providers’ ability to communicate information effectively and compassionately is key to a successful patient provider relationship. However, this relationship can be jeopardized if the provider does not recognize and appreciate the cultural differences between them and their patients. Consequently, it is important to raise and develop awareness of intercultural communication skills to guarantee patients’ welfare and not limit anyone’s access to potential healthcare information.

We are all influenced by and belong to multiple cultures that go beyond race and ethnicity. For example, culture can be shaped by education, proximity, gender, age, and religion. Culture determines how we explain and value our world. It provides us with a lens through which we find meaning. Furthermore, cultures affect patients ‘attitudes about medical care and their ability to understand, manage, and cope with the course of an illness. In addition, culture specific values influence patient roles and expectations, such as how much information about illness and treatment is desired, how death and dying will be managed, and gender and family roles.

When providers don’t have an understanding of their patient’s culture, when communication is not culturally sensitive, not only are patients and families less likely to be satisfied with their experiences of care but there is an increased risk of miscommunication which can result in lower compliance, missed diagnosis and diminished health outcomes. Thus, it is incumbent upon providers to take the time to understand their patients’ cultural differences and develop the skills necessary for effective communication.

Project One asks students to explore the issue of patient-provider communication as it pertains to effective cross-cultural communication. This assignment has two components: an expository research paper on an approved topic of the student’s choice and an accompanying annotated bibliography.
