Militarization of U.S. Police Forces and its Relationship to Blue-on-Black Violence
This is a capstone essay. I have already completed a good chunk of the research paper, so your job is to EXPAND and ADD to the work I have done. There is no need to include an introduction or conclusion because I have already written it. I need you to EXPAND on the essay that I already began writing (see attachment for details). The attachment I included shows the work that is already completed. I wrote about 5 pages excluding the bibliography, so please add to my work so that the final paper is around 12-15 pages. You must add to the literature review using the sources I used as well as additional sources of your choosing. You must expand the bibliography, and beef up the model/method section. Be very specific in your method about the data you will use and which variables you will need to specify the model completely. That means you need to look at some of the arguments about why states have high blue-on-black violence. It is likely the claim is that these states have large populations, high crime rates, or simply higher non-white populations. The goal is to control for these other variables and show that 1033 money is still correlated with higher levels of blue-on-black violence. Moreover, include a theory and data section that recaps the problems in the existing literature, defines your theoretical approach, defines your variables, and then explains what your data are (be specific) and what your thesis is/what you expect to find.
The paper should have a literature review section, a model and method section, and a theory & data section. Once again, please DO NOT create a new paper, you will expand on the paper I have attached to this assignment, in which you will expand on the literature review, use the sources in my bibliography as well as 8-10 additional sources of your choosing, expand on my model/method section, and create a theory and data section.
This is the research problem you will address and will find your data on:
“While multiple studies have explored the police force’s increasing militarization and its societal effects, most of these studies rely on limited cases or are unreliable sources of evidence. Additionally, scholars tend to focus on either the racial dimension of police violence or the influence of militarization on crime prevention. I propose a systematic statistical analysis conducted at the state level, containing a wide range of factors, including racialized police violence, crime incidence, and the degree of police militarization.
To test my hypothesis, I will use a dataset that compiles data on police violence across all 50 states, accounting for victim demographics such as age, race, gender, and the state where the incidents occurred. Additionally, I will access data from the Defense Logistics Agency to asses the funding each state receives from the 1033 program to fund their police with military weapons. I will explore state crime rate data, taking into account factors like racial composition and population. Lastly, I will add a crime rate control variable separated into two categories: violent crimes and property crimes, and I will obtain data from the FBI database to analyze these variables further. A systematic statistical test will be conducted to determine whether the amount of money each state receives from the 1033 program has an effect on the level of blue-on-black violence occurring in those states. According to my hypothesis, the data should reveal a pattern where the states receiving greater funding from the 1033 program experience a higher incidence of blue-on-black violence. I will also look at some of the arguments about why states have high blue-on-black violence. It is likely that sources will claim that states have higher blue-on-black violence because they have large populations, higher crime rates, or simply higher non-white populations. Thus, I will control for these variables to show that the 1033 money is still correlated with higher levels of blue-on-black violence.”
