The following is my problem statement:
Problem Identification, Purpose of the Project, and Problem Statement
Pressure injuries pose a significant risk to patients, and their incidence and severity can be reduced through early identification and intervention by nursing (Miller, Emeny, & Freed, 2019). However, they are often left unidentified in early admission to an acute care hospital, leading to poor health outcomes and increased care costs (Miller et al., 2019). Therefore, it is crucial to identify and document pressure injuries in the Emergency Department before admission to an acute care hospital. However, current practices for identification in the Emergency Department still need to be improved, and the potential of informatics in improving pressure injury identification also needs to be fully realized (Bergquist-Beringer, 2020). Thus, the problem statement is to investigate the possibility of using informatics to assist nursing staff in increasing the identification and documentation of pressure injuries in the Emergency Department.
