Organizational Communication Discussion Post

Learning Goal: I’m working on a communications discussion question and need an explanation and answer to help me learn.

Select a specific organization of your choosing. It could be a place of employment, a social organization, service organization, religious/spiritual organization, recreational organization, etc. You get the idea. This could be an organization where you are now/or have personally been a member, but it need not be. You may also talk with/interview someone else (friend, relative) with regard to an organization that theyare a part of. Now…analyze this organization as a “System.â€ What would you identify as the important “parts/componentsâ€ of this system, and what different functions/roles do these different parts serve? Has there ever been a “ripple effect” when something went wrong with only ONE part of the system, but this caused the rest of the system to slow down significantly or stop completely? Primarily, would you classify this system as an “Open Systemâ€ or a “Closed System?â€ WHY would you classify it in this manner? Finally, what changes in the system would you personally recommend? (NO system on earth is perfect. If you determine that “no changes can be suggested,â€ then you are not thinking deeply enough).
