oving v. Virginia, 388 U.S. 1 (1967) -Invalidated state laws prohibiting interracial marriage.

his is not a case brief. Please answers all questions in narrative/paragraph form.

1) Explain the factual circumstances that led the case to be heard by the Supreme Court. Tell the story in your own words. Who was the plaintiff? Who was the defendant? What led the plaintiff to seek relief? Why did the defendant oppose relief.
1) Are there interesting facts about the parties leading up to or after the decision was decided?

2) What was the Procedural History of the case?

3) What were the issues?

4) What was the Supreme Court’s decision? What was its rationale? Who dissented and why? Who concurred and why?

5) Why is the case you chose a “landmark case?” What made it significant? What is its legacy? How did the case change America? How was the case received by the public?

6) Are there future challenges on the horizon? Is your case still good law? If not why? Is your case still a strong precedent? Has it been made stronger or weaker by later decisions, acts of congress, etc? Identify at least one real life dispute/controversy which implicates issues that arose in your case since the case was decided. Be open-minded to how the precedent or rationale can be applied to other situations when answering this question.
I.e. A case based upon race can be applied to another protected class to afford protections.

7) Why did you pick the case you chose? Explain why the case you chose resonated with you and/or has significance to you above all of the others. Do you agree or disagree with its holding and why?
