Peer Review Résumés

Peer Review: Résumés

194 unread replies195 replies.

Drafts due Friday. Peer reviews completed for peers by Tuesday.

After posting your first draft of your Résumé, please peer review two other students’ posts. Scroll through the posts to find unclaimed submissions and post a comment that you will be reviewing a submission, so that others will see you have claimed this peer’s résumé for review.

I would like to have an even distribution of reviews, so please respond to postings that have not been commented on at least two times. In other words, I’d like each student to hear from two students.

Think about being a busy Human Resources director who has to wade through 300 resumes quickly. Think about first impressions and how quickly you can see important information. Remember, professionals will only spend a matter of seconds looking at something that might dictate the course of your whole careers. In your feedback, you can offer goodwill like “wow, you have great experience” or “whoa, you were in the Army for 13 years!” but the goal of this peer review is to talk about the design and delivery of the information.

I ask you to at least comment on the following questions, with thoughtful and complete ideas, not “yes/no”:

  1. Is the résumé visually pleasing? Are the fonts effective or lacking something? Is white space used effectively to balance information without making the résumé appear weak?
  2. Do underlines, bolds, and/or italics get excessive anywhere?
  3. Are job/skill actions detailed and specific? Are the action verbs strong?
  4. Are phrases used—not complete sentences (no “I is necessary)?
  5. Do jobs/academics appear in Reverse-Chronological order?
  6. Present jobs: Are the verb forms active and present tense (ex: Conduct, Review, Design)?
Past Jobs: Are the verb forms past-tense (ex: Conducted, Reviewed, Designed)?
    Months & Years worked?

Points: 50: 10 points post, 2 completed, strong Peer Reviews 40 points
