Please read an excerpt explaining  Academic Integrity policies (posted under Course Documents). Please provide a 1 page reading response by August 27th, 11.59 PM explaining your understanding of what constitutes cheating and plagiarism and the proper ways to use your sources. Every student in this class must read the assigned document and confirm their understanding of the problem discussed.

At the end of your response, please complete a practical test assignment: write a paragraph incorporating two quotations: one from an academic journal and anther one from an academic book (a monograph). These can be any academic book and any academic journal, but preferably ones in the fields of social sciences or humanities. The contents doesn’t matter: it’s just an exercise. Academic books are usually published by University presses (Columbia University Press, etc.) Academic journals can be found on our college library website in the Databases (JSTOR, etc.)

Please make sure to surround your quotation by quotation marks, by so doing separating it from your own text, and then cite the source in parentheses right after the end of the quotation (name of the author, year, page): (Lambek 1996:243). When you finish the paragraph, write a word “Bibliography” and give a full citation of the sources according to the AAA Style Guide (based on Chicago Manual of Style) provided in the Course Documents section: one example for an academic journal citation and another one for an academic book citation
