Find a news article or government report from the last year that demonstrate the policy process in action, and then explain how and which part of the process it demonstrates. The article must be about any country other than the United States.
Hello Class,
For this week’s discussion, the article that I found interesting was on how Canada has banned the purchase of new handgun sales in the latest gun control action that the country has seen in almost 40 years. The policy to ban new handguns came from the raise of gun violence in Canada. This policy is currently in the implementation phase led by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. These “actions stop people from buying, selling or transferring handguns within Canada, and prevents them from bringing newly acquired handguns into the country, according to the prime minister’s office.â€ Alberta’s Minister of Justice Tyler Shandro is not on board with the ban on handgun sales, he stated, “the federal government’s real goal is to scapegoat handgun owners and use wedge politics to appeal to a narrow base of voters who wish to see legal firearm ownership in this country eliminated entirely.â€ The adoption of this policy is not being received well by all parties involved and now Canadians can no longer buy new handguns. This policy has not had time to be evaluated to see if there will be any effective change in gun violence.
