The remainder of the semester will be dedicated to the research project.
For the final research portion of the course, you will compose a short research proposal on the
discussion board that introduces your topic, its scope, and the thesis you will advance in the
final paper. You can think of this as the introduction to your paper.
After selecting a topic from this file, you will find academic, peer reviewed sources from the
online library databases, which will be used to write your final paper. The Annotated
Bibliography should be formatted in MLA style and each annotation should be at least a half
page. Your annotation should cogently summarize the content of the source while alluding to its
relevance to your overall research goals. See sample annotated bibliography, MLA citation
templates, general tips for an annotated bibliography, and a sample outline below as guides.
These research topics represent broad points of inquiry. The text in bold represents the
broad starting points and the non-bold text are merely suggestions for inquiry.
You are encouraged to pick a topic that you know nothing about and take it in any
direction you would like, but you should ultimately narrow the scope of your research
and seek empirical evidence to support your thesis.
