Preparing for your presentation
Main steps
– You have to find a scientific paper that you will present using Power point slides.
– The topic of the paper must be related to psychotraumatology. It can be anything you like (trauma and risk groups, refugees, traumatic event in your country, other topic that you are interested in).
– By March 31st, you have to register your topic at Moodle and get the approval from the lecturer.
– If you do not prepare the presentation, you cannot have an exam.
– Preparing and presenting is an individual work.
– The duration of presentation is 10-15 minutes.
– Main parts of the presentation should look like that:
o introduction (why this topic is important, what you are going to present);
o methods (who the participants are, how they are assessed);
o results and discussion (what the results of the study are, what they mean).
IMPORTANT Do not use disturbing images, videos or something familiar in your presentation, because some viewers may find it stressful to watch!
How to search for a scientific papers?
– Think of a topic that you are interested in.
– Think of the key words that describes your topic the best.
– Write them to the chosen databases. They are: Web of Science, Scopus, PsychNet, PubMed. You can also use Google Scholar. Also look at journals: European Journal of Psychotraumatology, Journal of Traumatic Stress, Psychological Trauma: Theory, Research, Practice, and Policy.
– The paper has to be good and reliable. It means that the journal where it is published has to be good and reliable.
– For checking the quality of the journal where the paper is published, go to www.scimagojr.com or https://www.scopus.com journal must be of the level Q1 or Q2.
– Also, the paper shouldn’t be older than 10 years.
– You can also use books, related to your topic.
Don’t forget that one of your tasks of the course is to write an essay. The question topic is similar as the one of your presentation. You have to use some more papers for the essay. The guidelines of the essay will be also provided.
