Culture-Bound Syndrome Analysis

The purpose of the Culture-Bound Syndrome Analysis is for you to research and apply concepts of culture-bound syndromes, which are not traditionally noted in the DSM-5.

Choose 1 Culture Bond Syndrome (i HAVE ATTACHED ANOTHER FILE ) and do a deep dive in its history, specific cultural implications, and its relevance to the DSM-5. Specifically, your submission should address the following:

  • What is the origin of the syndrome?
  • What is the clinical picture (i.e., what are the specific symptoms exhibited)?
  • Compare and contrast the clinical picture to how we conceptualize psychopathology in western culture (i.e., in the DSM-5).
  • What are the theoretical underpinnings to the syndrome?
  • What kind of treatments are utilized?

**Please note. Although Dissociative Identity Disorder is on the reading, that one may not be used for this assignment because it is in the DSM.

A minimum of 2 scholarly, peer-reviewed sources not provided in the assigned readings from class are required to be used. The DSM also does not count toward your required 2.

Full credit will be given to thoughtful and substantive submissions that demonstrate academic immersion, learning, and application.
