i Ruth,
Does later work better for you? I could come back on around 8pm if that time works better for you.
Let me know if 8pm works better.
Your AAC Research paper was on the topic of the Accent Devices with the Unity Software.
I know we spoke about writing about the Accent devices in general (there are a few in that product line and you can just write about the accents collectively).
Here is a link to those devices: https://www.prentrom.com/products/devices
Here is a link to their Youtube site with a ton of great videos and demonstrations: https://www.youtube.com/@PRCBrand
Another site that talks about the Accent devices: https://assistive.co.nz/product/accent-1000/
Here is a link for the Unity software that can be used on the Accent devices: https://www.prentrom.com/prc_advantage/unity-language-system
Have you explored these already? You will most likely find the information you need to write your paper on the links listed above and any additional research you have found.
You are correct, you will write the paper first then develop the presentation. Your presentation is essentially a summary of your paper. The rubric for that presentation and what you need to include is on the assignment tab in Canvas.
Will you need some extended time to complete the research paper? It’s due week 7 but you can have a few extra days if you need them.
Please let me know.
Lauren
Some of the topics I had shared for you to locate articles included information from our Module on Chapter 15 (AAC)
Here are some ideas for article topics:
Aided Language Input (also known as aided language stimulation or partner assisted input)
Core words and Fringe words
Training and Implementation practices for staff and caretakers
Vocabulary selection- have a robust device (this would be the term to look for in your articles)
Alternative access methods (does the Accent allow for eye gaze? if so, you can find information on this access method and the best supports/ strategies/ approaches?
having a backup method- what approaches and supports are needed if my device is in need of repair? what methods are best for providing back-up tools?
Does AAC support speech and language development? if so, how? What is the overall “goal” of AAC??
You should also look through the Chapter 15 page on Canvas for additional links and information. Look through the AAC resource book (PDF) if you haven’t already.

This is the research paper you will use to develop your class presentation during the last week of class.
For the class presentation, you will share a PowerPoint, Prezi presentation or other presentation platform programs you developed as part of your core assessment assignment. If possible, please bring the device to show everyone. If you do not have access to the device, you may ask if anyone else does have access to it and would be willing to bring the device when you present. Class presentations should be 15 minutes. If you would like to show a short video that is fine, but make sure the video fits within your time limit. You should review and share the major takeaways from your research into the AAC device and be prepared to discuss and answer questions.
