The project is a real-life practical application of your methodology mentioned in your previous report. This time, please pick a US company that you are interested in and calculate its final score along with detailed numbers/calculations in an excel file. In the meantime, please make sure to meet the following requirements:
Practical application of financial metrics and how to report on how to “grade” the quality of a company from different perspectives
1. Try not to acquire/calculate the financial metrics data by downloading and reading line by line through their financial statements report. Instead, imagine yourself to be an efficient programmer who is able to directly scrape the information/data from public websites all at once as long as you specify metrics’ name or related data needed to calculate them. In this case, try to find the numbers directly from websites (of course, they need to be well-proofed and solid sources instead of some random numbers thrown at a personal twitt or blog by some random guy on the internet). Some of the websites I would recommend would be Finviz(https://finviz.com/screener.ashx?v=121) or Yahoo Finance(https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/AAPL/financials?p=AAPL). For all raw numbers/metrics you retrieved from the websites, before using them to calculate, please put them into a single excel sheet in an organized way and mark all their source links respectively on that sheet. Calculation details & formula can be either on that same sheet or on a different sheet, which depends on your preference.
2. Please create a detailed and easy-to-read table sheet elaborating which sectors should be focusing on which metrics, since they should be differentiated among different sectors as previously known already. In this case, please also elaborate how much weights you plan to put to these metrics for calculating the final scores.
3. When it comes to sentiment scores, there are potentially many sources where you can find a company’s sentiment score directly provided by them. You can just use them and please make sure to include the reference link where you find them.
4. You might be confused that it’s easy to get all metrics of one company, but in order to get its scores within its sector, we will have to get all its peers’ metrics in order to compare. Therefore, what I suggest is that you can just create lists of fake metrics/numbers of its peers to be compared with. The main goal here is to simulate the single process of getting the scores, without precisely getting all real data of companies, which will be too time-consuming for manual work. Instead, in our team’s production process, we will be utilizing programming pipelines to get all necessary info/data from websites all at once before calculating, which are full-automated.
5. All sheets need to be in an excel file.
Please send to me the excel sheet by the end of April 9, 2023, EST and feel free to let me know if you have any questions in the process!
