Presentation: Visualizing your Work
Goals
The goal of the project is for you to develop a presentation with appropriate visualization showcasing a real-world dataset. You will need to understand the data (its types and structure), the questions your visualization will answer, and the business/operational decisions it will support. You will also be asked to justify your visualization design choices.
Instructions
This is an individual project. The project should utilize PowerPoint and provide custom visualizations relevant to a business decision/issue at hand. You should leverage data from your place of employment to visualize and analyze the current problem or issue you are facing. Your dataset should contain a minimum of 100 records. Visualizations should be produced in Excel, Tableau, or other relevant software applications.
I encourage you to use datasets related to your work. However, you may consult this list of public datasets if you don’t have work-related data. For the public datasets, you will have to presuppose a question that needs to be answered.
Proposal
A proposal that includes
A description of the dataset(s) you will be working with, including a description of the records (e.g., fields, data definitions). Explain the source of the dataset.
A statement regarding the business issue you plan to address (e.g., How are we to best allocate taxi services across our city?). Also include a detailed list of the business questions you plan to answer in your project. (For example, if you are examining a dataset of taxi data to answer the aforementioned business issue, you might ask “Which day sees the highest ridership?” and “Which locations see the highest density of ridership?)
