Learning Goal: I’m working on a humanities writing question and need a sample draft to help me learn.
- Using library databases or the internet, find 1 review of your film from within two years of when it was released.
- Using library databases or the internet, find 1 article about marriage within a 5-year range of your film’s release date. (For example if the film came out in 1955, I would like the article to be from between 1950-1960.) If you are working with a foreign film, I would strongly suggest also making sure the article addresses marriage within the country that you are writing about.
- Make sure to include a full bibliography entry for each one, either at the beginning or at the end of your essay. If you don’t know how to do this, please see me or go here. Feel free to use any citation style that you would like (MLA, APA, etc.), but if you want to be a historian, we use Chicago!
- Read your two articles. What are the main arguments or points of each article? What are the biases of the author? What can you learn about how people are thinking about marriage during this time/place? Do these articles agree or disagree with each other?
- Write a 500-750 word essay putting your two articles in conversation with one another.
- The essay needs a clear thesis statement.
- You must directly quote each article as evidence.
- You may, though it’s not required, also directly quote or refer to your film.
