Scenario
Riverdale Regional Medical Center is a not-for-profit acute care hospital with 300 beds that serves the northern region of Massachusetts. The hospital employs over 350 physicians who practice in emergency medicine, cardiology, women and childbirth care, pediatrics, oncology, and more.
Recently, Riverdale Regional Medical Center decided to convert their paper-based record system into an electronic health record (EHR) system. As the Health Information Director of the hospital, you have been placed in charge of undertaking the massive task of implementing the EHR system.
The EHR implementation team has decided to send team representatives to EHR vendors’ sites for hands-on demonstrations. Prior to visiting with EHR vendors to review system functions, capabilities, and attributes, you have asked each team member to meet with their respective departments and submit a report to you on the functions they would like tested during the site visit. You will eventually need to compile all the reports and send them to the vendors to prepare for the visits.
But first, you need to meet with the HIM department and create a report for them. The HIM department has identified the following to be included in the report: medical record delinquencies and provider reminders, HIM reports, and electronic document management.
Instructions
Prepare a professional report that:
- Examines the importance of reporting medical record delinquencies and provider reminders in the EHR system.
- Identifies the HIM reports that need to be pulled from the EHR system.
- Includes information needed in the reports and the purpose of each report.
- Analyzes the need for an electronic document management system to be included in the EHR system.
General Requirements
- Uses professional language and tone with correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation in report.
- Provides at least one credible, professional source as an APA formatted reference.
