Project 1 – Category 1: Report on Authoritative and Popular Sources in Discipline (10%)
What to do:
For this project you will select two current authoritative sources and two current popular source
from the discipline affiliated with your major or future career and write a report. Your report
should include the characteristics of these sources—what makes them authoritative, credible
sources in your discipline? What are the characteristics of the popular source and how is it
different from the authoritative sources? What are their purposes and who are their intended
audiences? How are they “published”—in paper, online, through social media?
The information you provide in your report will probably include examples from the sources, so
properly cite all borrowed ideas and material. Your report should inform your audience about
credible and popular sources affiliated with your discipline.
Sources:
To be clear, you are reporting on sources not articles. Sources for this assignment are larger
works from which information comes. These may be journals, websites, or various accounts on
social media.
Audience:
Write this for your peers in this class who may be in the same discipline. Use this report as a way
to build a list of credible sources from your discipline that you can go back to for future
assignments and popular sources you can explore for information to investigate in the
authoritative sources.
Format:
Your project should follow MLA formatting. It should take you around five to
seven pages plus a Works Cited page to complete this assignment.
I have the scholarly sources selected and can send the files, I haven’t picked out popular sources yet. My essay is on “accounting” sources.
