Public History and Public History of Education seek to bridge the gap between academia and civil society by choosing and developing tools and strategies in response to the needs and complex relationship between contemporary society and history. History as the basis for the construction of identity rhetoric, the use, abuse and distortion of history in contemporary debate.
2. Identity and tradition: problematic definitions
Starting by framing the concept from a philosophical, anthropological and sociological perspective and then focusing on the aspects inherent in cultural identity
The construction of cultural identity always rests on historical reference points, which are often shaky or easily refutable: the concept of identity is fluid and in dialectical relationship with the society of reference. Identity and tradition turn out to be closely related in this construction, often reinforcing each other.
