Part Two of the Capstone Project is the Final Paper. Each student will write a 12-15 page Final Paper that examines and communicates their Capstone Project in detail.
3.2.1 FINAL PAPER GRADING RUBRIC* Followed Directions: 10 points
• Paper is appropriate length.*
• Margins, font, and spacing are all according to paper guidelines.
• Sources, both in-text and within the bibliography, are formatted correctly.
Research: 20 points
• There are a sufficient number of sources (will vary for different topics).
• Sources are nearly all from peer-reviewed journals or edited volumes (your topic may
merit use of non-peer-reviewed material, confer with instructor).
• Sources are appropriate for, and adequately represent the scope of, the subject.
Summation of the Research: 30 points
• Clearly understood the problem or topic being discussed.
• Clearly understood the various arguments and theories on the subject. • Did not quote other authors – could summarize work using own words. • All data provided is well supported with citations.
Analysis/Explanatory Approach: 20 points
For students who did statistical tests
• Tests carried out were appropriate for the question.
• Reasonable interpretation of results. For students who did traditional thesis papers
• Provided a strong thesis that outlined an argument (not just stating the obvious). • Did more than summarize sources, but provided critical thought on the research. • Presented sources in a way that showed how they connected with each other.
• Source data was used to effectively support main argument/thesis.
Grammar and Writing Style: 20 points
• Few (if any) typos or grammatical errors.
• Well structured, clearly written, and easy to understand.
• Used professional language (avoided use of slang, contractions, etc.)
*Note that all rubrics are general guidelines and there may be additional penalties applied that go beyond what is outlined. This may include penalties for lateness, plagiarized passages, or paper that are short of the minimum page requirements.
