Must Read Everything:

Reply to at least two classmate’s posts, applying the RISE Model for Meaningful Feedback

I will also show an example below of how the response needs to be addressed.

Here’s an example of how the response should look. Please don’t copy it.

The response to the classmate need to be just like this.

Example Response (Response Needs to be writen just like the response below No copying)

RISE Feedback:

REFLECT: I concur with “Action plans should reflect the type of services that are needed and have an idea of the expected outcome of the services” because it is in line with Hatch and Hartline’s intentional school counseling guidelines in regards to determining students needs.

INQUIRE: Can you further explain what “closing-the-gap action plans” are?

SUGGEST: I encourage you to revisit Hatch and Hartline’s MTMDSS tier interventions in order to add a citation that would illustrate your example on bullying prevention efforts.

ELEVATE: What if you re-purposed “For example, after a needs assessment, the school is having problems with bullying” as “Following Trish Hatch’s MTMDSS tier based interventions, if the school is having problems with bullying, after a needs assessment, we could… citation…”  for a more weighted argument?

Assumptions within quantitative research stress objectivity and empirical data, while assumptions within qualitative research are more subjective, focusing on experiences, perspectives, and observations to understand phenomena (McMillan, 2016). School counselors and psychologists can advocate for students’ needs and make informed decisions based on empirical data and experiences/perspectives gathered from research to implement sound practices that will be in the best interest of their students. However, school counselors and psychologists must balance assumptions with ethical choices by ensuring research is done with adherence to legal and professional standards (McMillan, 2016). This means the research should be conducted in a way that respects the privacy of participants, does no harm to participants, and ensures participants are fully aware of the research process (McMillan, 2016). Overall, by utilizing ethical principles such as informed consent, confidentiality, avoiding harm, avoiding bias, and respecting individual rights, school counselors and psychologists can balance their assumptions with ethical choices and ensure their advocacy efforts adhere to legal and ethical standards (McMillan, 2016).

Response 2- Tanya

Assumptions play a significant role in shaping the perspectives and actions of school counselors. They can be implicit beliefs or ideas that school counselors have on a student’s background or the issues they can face. Assumptions can influence how a counselor perceives a student’s needs and rights and how they advocate for that student. School counselors can balance assumptions through advocacy, ethical choices, empathy, and active listening. School counselors should be aware of assumptions that affect how they perceive their student. For example, being aware of cultural diversity and avoiding stereotypes or recognizing socioeconomic assumptions to help in advocating for equal access to resources and opportunities, regardless of the student’s background. To help in balancing assumptions school counselors should work on having awareness of assumptions, have continuous self-reflection, focus on empathy and cultural competence and most importantly adhere to legal and ethical standards (McMillan, 2016). The most important thing is for a school counselor to ensure the well-being of the student and not cause any harm by utilizing ethical principles such as avoiding harm, bias, and respecting the rights of the student (McMillan, 2016).
