Reflection #2 – Reflecting on the Past – Tang Tales
Due date: July 2, 2023
We are often influenced by stories of the past and often reflect on the present through the past, even when we are not fully aware of this. In our third unit, we explored features of South Asian and East Asian civilizations, particular from a religious perspective, but also with concern for how societies functioned and were organized in these civilizations.
For our second reflection, I would like to consider how Tales from Tang China reflected and differed from earlier traditions in both China and India. Using at least three of the Tang Tales, compare and contrast them to the earlier sources we read in India (South Asia) and China. In your answer, you should cite at least one of our sources used in the Indian section and at least one additional source in the Chinese section. (If you are counting: at least 5 citations – 3 from Tales from Tang; 1+ from India; 1+ from China on top of those)
Your reflection should be 3 full pages in length in a word document.
NOTE: Any sources cited from outside of our readings will cause a 5% deduction from your grade and will not count to the sources part of your evaluation.
