Assignment Focus:
Reflective Literature Review (RLR) on the knowledge and understanding of Autism.
Assignment Brief:
Your RLR must include a discussion of:
1. The SEN Code of Practice 2015
2. The Equality Act 2010
3. The Children and Families Act 2014
4. Nasen Handbook
You are not expected to discuss the entire content of these documents – only the sections that relate to your topic.
You may select the remaining two pieces of literature that form the focus texts of your RLR. These may be journal articles, chapters from books, or whole books.
It is expected that your RLR will be linked to the topic of your presentation. While you will focus on these six core pieces of literature, you will draw on other reading to support you in discussion of your points.
Assignment Structure:
Introduction (approximately 300 words).
• Indicate the basic structure of your reflective literature review – tell the reader what to expect.
• Outline your chosen topic and the six focus pieces of literature you are going to discuss.
Discussion of literature (approximately 1,400 words) There are two ways of approaching this section:
1) Go through each piece of literature one by one and critically evaluate how it
contributes in terms of knowledge and understanding of autism
2) Go through your key themes and critically explore the literature in terms of how it contributes knowledge and understanding of autism, not all of the six pieces of lit may relate to each topic, but ensure you do cover all six pieces thoughtfully by the end of the
Reflective literature review.
Conclusion (approximately 300 words)
• Recommendations for good practice in relation to the key points explored
• Brief outline of how your own practice has developed in these areas.
