Students will review a self-selected scholarly, peer-reviewed article that addresses the health impact of the social determinants of health on a health issue. Students will write a short paper (2–3-pages, not including title and reference pages) in APA 7th Edition format that includes the following:
• Brief overview of the article with rationale for selection (1-2 paragraphs)
• Describe proximal, intermediate, and distal factors
o Proximal (direct, downstream) factors: socioeconomic status, physical environment, living/working conditions, family/social network, lifestyle/behavior, demographic
o Intermediate factors: community infrastructure, resources, systems/capacities
o Distal (indirect, upstream) factors: national, institutional, political, legal, cultural
• Describe health equity, diversity, equity, and inclusion factors related to the issue
• Identify possible interventions to address the issue. Include how advanced practice nurses and interprofessional team members may address the issue.
• Format: Type-written, double-spaced, with a title page. An abstract is not needed. Include at least 2 substantiating scholarly, peer-reviewed articles from the professional literature; Use correct grammar and spelling. Cite appropriate, evidence-based, original sources using APA format.
