The roughly two decades between 1910 and 1930 were times of great change for African Americans, a period of simultaneous hope and despair. Your task is to write a persuasive, analytical essay in which you break this down for the reader. In other words, explain what was changing socially, politically and economically, what led to these changes, what the outcomes were for Black people in the United States, and what did not change. African Americans must be centered in this essay. Do not write a paper that is a general description of changes in the United States between 1910 and 1930. DO NOT USE ANY OUTSIDE SOURCES. Stay within the years 1910 – 1930.

3) African Americans began to abandon the republican party in the 1930s because the New Deal offered them new jobs, relief, and a modicum of political power in the urban north. (9 459)
4) “President Roosevelt is a friend to the Laborin’ Men” (9 460). African american wrote many songs to acknowledge the debt they felt to Roosevelt and how joining the unions changed their lives.
5) Black voters reported “Roosevelt saved them from starvation, gave them aid when they were in distress”.
