In this course section, the research paper will require students to choose an area of society that they feel has been/is currently being shaped by new media and technological advancement. Using course terms/concepts, and outside research, your paper will discuss how new/interactive media technologies have altered this societal realm.
You will be required to craft a persuasive thesis and support this thesis using research. While you must choose a side to argue, you are expected to explore multiple viewpoints and arguments. The project is designed for you to engage in critical thinking to understand the potential uses and effects of new/interactive media. The project’s overall purpose is for you to become a better writer, critical thinker, reader, and speaker – in line with the COMM 200 learning outcomes.
Requirements
1. The paper should have a title page formatted according to APA (7th edition) style conventions for student papers. You do not need an abstract.
2. The paper should be double-spaced with 12-point Times or Cambria font.
3. You must have an APA-style reference page and in-text citations for all sources.
4. All margins, page numbers, spacing, etc., should also be in APA style.
5. Your paper should be between 8 and 10 pages (double-spaced, excluding the title and reference pages).
6. You should include numerous course readings in your paper, as you are expected to integrate concepts and terminology from lectures and your readings. Beyond these sources, you must include a minimum of 5 academic sources in your paper (again, this is beyond any course readings and/or non-academic sources that you use).
