An important role of the nurse is using drug knowledge to assess and teach patients/clients about the drugs they are consuming. Interview someone (friend or family member) who has taken one of the GI medications discussed in this module. Share your finding via discussion. Please do not identify your interviewee by name. Use your text as a reference.
1. Ask why they used the drug and how their body responded to the drug – benefits and side effects.
2. Discuss 3 important patient teaching points about this drug. Explain the rationale for each.
3. Identify 3 questions you would ask a patient to evaluate if the medication is working effectively.
