Small Group Activity 2 – Public Policy, Policy Design and Public Administration (Intro to Public Admin)

  1. Agency and Mission Description: After watching the TED Talk, gather in small groups and select a specific federal-level agency of the U.S. government. Begin by describing the agency’s organizational mission and its primary policy area of involvement.

  2. Link to TED Talk video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MB9R_HxTui0  –  (Making government better, through data and design | Cat Drew)

  3. Utilization of Policy Design, Data, and Evidence: Explore how this chosen agency employs policy design, data, and evidence to enhance its organizational performance and the effectiveness of its public policies. Explain the strategies and practices employed by the agency in utilizing these elements.

  4. Impact on Policy Outcomes Assessment: Examine whether there is evidence to suggest that the use (or lack thereof) of policy design, data, and evidence has positively impacted the policy outcomes of this government agency. If possible, highlight one notable policy outcome that has caught your group’s attention and briefly discuss how it relates to the agency’s use of these elements.
Compile and organize your responses into a Microsoft Word document and select one member from your group to upload this document to Canvas.
