Socialization Journal Assignment

Consider the theories of socialization and self-development we have studied in class (Chapter 5).

Using this information, reflect on the ways in which you have developed as an individual. Where can you see the course concepts in action in your own life?
Here are some prompts to get you thinking – be sure to touch on a few of these in your paper!
How you were socialized as a child? As an adult?
What agents of socialization (family, peer groups, school, the workplace, media, etc) have been the most influential to you?
Does any theory of personality (psychological or social) feel applicable to how you became who you are today?
Have you ever experienced “resocialization” (see section 5.4)?
Last but not least…looking forward into the future – what has helped you decide who you want to become? Where can you apply / see these theories ‘at work’ in your own experiences?
BE SURE TO DEFINE EACH THEORY, TERM, CONCEPT, ETC THAT YOU USE, and CREDIT THE SOCIOLOGIST!
EX: Thomas theorem, Erikson’s Theory of Personality, Agent of Sociolization, Kohlberg or Gilligan’s Moral Development Theory, Looking Glass Self, Harry Harlow’s Theory of Social Relationships, etc
Length: 2 pages, double spaced, 12 pt font. Proofread your work!
Due: Friday, March 10th, by Midnight. Late submissions will not be accepted.
