Selected Nonprofit Organization over mental health
For this assignment, you are asked to consider your own community and then identify a nonprofit organization that addresses a community need or problem that you are interested in learning more about. Once you have selected the nonprofit, use its website and other information sources to provide a summary description of the organization’s programs, governance with its board of directors, and finances. You will use this organization as the context for the grant proposal you will prepare for this course.
As you conduct your investigation, consider what funding needs the organization might have to pursue its mission. Does the organization need additional funding to maintain its services at current levels? Would the community benefit if the organization’s services were expanded to serve more people? Would the community benefit if a new service approach were introduced?
To complete this assignment, conduct a literature and internet search to learn more about the organization through its website, written literature, and news sources. For example, if you are interested in homelessness, locate an organization in your community that provides emergency shelter or supported housing for homeless populations. If interested in seniors, find an organization that provides outreach services and other resources to isolated seniors in their home. If interested in mental health, find an organization that provides mental health treatment.
In your Unit 1 Assignment, be sure to discuss the following:
- The organization’s vision, goal, and mission.
- The population served.
- The community need addressed by the organization.
- Other nonprofits and government agencies that the organization collaborates with.
- The services provided by the organization that respond to the need (e.g., outreach services, case management services, recovery services, etc.).
- The program’s past performance (i.e., how effective has it been).
- How the organization is funded (e.g., public and private sources, etc.). For financial information about the organization, it is recommended that you use GuideStar to download the organization’s publicly available tax information.
- The organization’s strategic plan (if available).
- The composition of its board of directors.
- The type of funding proposal that might be appropriate for this organization.
- Remaining questions you have about the organization.
Your assignment should be no more than 2 pages, not including the title and reference pages, and should include the following elements:
- Title page: Provide your name, title of assignment, course and section number, and date.
- Body: Answer all the questions in complete sentences and paragraphs.
- Your responses should reflect professional writing standards, using proper tone and language. The writing and writing style should be correct and accurate, reflecting knowledge of skills and practice in psychology.
- Reference page: Sources listed in APA format.
- Include a minimum of three peer-reviewed resources from the course readings, Purdue University Global Library, or other outside sources.
- Use Arial or Times New Roman 12-point font, double-spaced, and left-aligned.
- Use standard 1″ margins on all sides.
- Use current APA formatting and citation style.
