After you make your selection and carefully study the accompanying article, you will want to spend a bit of time locating other independent and reliable sources of
information not too many (around three is an appropriate target number) and doing the necessary background research. Please review Chapter IV in A Workbook for Arguments for tips on finding appropriate sources
A major focus of the essay should be on articulating your own views and providing a
well-reasoned defense of those views. Do not merely summarize your sources. You are
encouraged to quote occasionally from the sources in order to clarify or bolster your own analysis, but you should not quote excessively. Generally speaking, you should shoot for no more than two quotations per page of writing, and the quotations should be no longer than two lines in length.
