Your final paper will be an essay of 900-1200
words (3 to 4 pages, double spaced).
Your
paper is required to have all of the following components:
1. An argument or claim about the film you’re writing on (For example: “This paper will argue
that …”, or “In this essay, I will look at Haider critiques the Indian government’s presence in Kashmir by…”)
2. support of this claim through detailed textual analysis (for example: “One example of how The Time that Remains uses absurdist humor to critique the Israeli government’s
treatment of Palestinians occurs in the repeated scenes of Fuad and his friend
fishing…”)
3. support of your points through proper and appropriate citation of
at least one scholarly essay on the syllabus. (for
example: “As Graham Dawson notes, space is important to the politics of
memory in Nothern Ireland. He writes…”)
You would need to think about how this particular scene might fit into a
larger argument about the film. To do that, you would want to pay close
attention to what you were thinking when you answered question 1 of that
assignment. Then, in addition to incorporating the scene analysis into a paper
that makes an argument about the film, you would also want to include
appropriate citations of the relevant reading assignments.
What if I just want to write
about The Battle of Algiers, Cafe Scene” where the three FLN women plant bombs in the European quarter assignment?
This is where the discusission board questions come in handy. Use
the relevant question as your prompt. Please note, though: you still need to
cite at least one relevant reading assignment.
You may use any citation style (ex: APA, MLA, Chicago)
you’re most comfortable with.
