• Read the article. Try not to make any notes when you read the article for the first time.
• Read the article again, paying close attention to the main objective(s) or thesis of the
article and the supporting points that the article uses. Reading the article more than once helps to ensure that you haven’t missed any important details.
Write a reaction focusing on and addressing the questions below:
1. What was the major research question the researchers were studying? What hypotheses did they test?
2. What was the logic that the researchers used to provide support for their hypotheses? What did they use for the basis (e.g., past research, etc.) of their hypotheses?
3. What type of method did the researchers use? Was it experimental or non- experimental? Was it in-person in a lab, survey research, naturalistic observation, archival, or something else?
4. Who were the participants or subjects in this study (how many, sex, ages, etc.)? Where were they recruited from?
5. Did the researchers find support for their hypotheses? Describe their findings. Were there any findings that researchers did not predict, or findings that did not support their hypotheses?
6. What did we learn about human psychology from this study or studies?
7. What were the practical or applied implications of this study or studies?
8. What is your impression of the article? Are there any important limitations or alternative explanations? In your opinion, was the author successful in making his/her/their point?
