The world has been grappling with the COVID-19 pandemic for over 3 years now. The pandemic has posed an unprecedented public health challenge with healthcare systems unable to cope with record levels of COVID-19 hospitalisations. The WHO director general, Dr. Tedros Adhanom, said “COVID-19 has now killed more than 5 million people….. The excess deaths caused by the virus, and by disruption to essential health services, are far higher. An unknown number of people live with the post-COVID condition, or long-COVID, a condition we are only beginning to understand” (WHO, 2021). Moreover, the pandemic had a devastating impact on the global economy triggering the largest global economic crisis in over hundred years and loss of livelihood for many households.
