History of Gender in 19th Century Latin America
This course will explore the important role that gendered practices, peoples, and spaces had in the
nation-budling projects of 19th century Latin America. The course will also discuss novels, chronicles,
travel logs and historical documents published from Mexico to Argentina between the 1800 and 1920.
The goal is to understand how and why gendered standpoints were deployed as tools for regulating public
practices.
This course will also analyze key aspects of the gender and society between Christianity and politics
in twentieth century Latin America.
