The Philosophy Education – Articulate & Assess Elizabeth Anderson’s Claims that Segregation is Itself Unjust

TOPIC:

“I have argued that social segregation is itself unjust, in that it creates an insular, clubby, self-serving, negligent, and ignorant elite. We cannot rely on affirmative action in college admissions to correct the problems of pervasive class and racial segregation. While affirmative action is necessary, taken alone it is too little, too late. The argument of this article entails much more extensive policies designed to integrate education at all levels” (Elizabeth Anderson, “Fair Opportunity in Education,” p. 619).
Please articulate and assess Anderson’s argument for her claims above, using whatever sources in our readings you find relevant. Argue that elective social segregation is not unjust, and defend your position as necessary. Attached to this assignment are thorough cribnotes on every source in the course. Please do not attempt to include all relevant sources since there are too many for you to incorporate in a focused 5-7 page paper. Instead, decide which sources will be most helpful to you in developing your own argument, either in support of or against the view that Anderson articulates in this passage.
