For Homework 1 you are to find an article on a subject that you are interested in that makes claims to form a given conclusion. Critically examine and evaluate the article’s claims making sure to correctly indicate how the claims fit into the articles overall argument (i.e. The author is arguing for more gun control based on claims A, B, C.). Comment on the strength, importance, applicability, viability, and persuasiveness of the claims as they might apply. Include comments on any directly applicable “missing” information that you would like to have seen included. Keep in mind that brief articles have a limited scope and cannot include everything. That said, missing information that is clearly within the scope of the article may give you insight into weaknesses of the article or its claims.
