This assignment asks you to respond to a Request for Proposal (RFP) on behalf of your agency. You may use the agency that you are placed in or create a fictional agency.

Purpose: The purpose of the assignment is to learn how the parts of a proposal fit together and to gain preliminary practice in writing a grant proposal. An agency administrator will need to secure funding to sustain his/her agency’s mission.

Details: Below are the details of the assignment’s fictional RFP. You will need to be creative in your response.
1.The W. Guy Foundation is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote healthy youth development and resiliency for Bronx residents, 10-18 years old.
The Foundation has sent an RFP to local agencies and organizations to fund start-up programs/projects for three years at $600,000 for each year that address one or both of the following:
the promotion of well-being and positive youth development
and/or resiliency in the face of adversity and trauma.
Projects that address leadership potential, academic success, creative arts, community responsibility, mentorship and healthy coping for Bronx residents between the ages of 10-18 years old are welcome. Values that support cultural competence should be obvious to the reader.
2.This year, the W. Guy Foundation is also partnering with The Healthy Aging Foundation, a nonprofit organization with the mission to develop programs to encourage physically and psychologically healthy aging experiences for people age 65 and over living in the Bronx.
The Foundation has sent an RFP to local agencies and organizations to fund one start up program for three years totaling $600,000 for each year to address promotion of well-being and positive aging and/or resilience in the face of adversity and trauma.
Projects that address development of leadership potential, intergenerational mentoring, creative arts, physical fitness, and healthy coping for Bronx residents aged 65 and older are welcome. Values that support culturally informed practice should be obvious to the reader.
Agencies/organizations will be selected based on the capacity to address the described needs, creativity and potential sustainability of their proposed programs/projects.
The following should guide your writing:
Choose which RFP you would like to address: Bronx youth or Bronx residents over 65 years of age.
Sections of the proposal should include: Introduction, Needs Statement, Program Description, Budget, Evaluation Plan, Future Funding Plan. Possible points for each section are below. An additional 5 points will be awarded for effective written communication, organization, clarity, and correct use of APA style, thus making for a total possible score of 35.
Introduction: here you briefly introduce both the problem/need to the reader and your proposed program/solution. You will need to provide descriptive information about your agency. (3 points)
Needs Statement: sometimes referred to as a needs assessment, this section identifies the problem/need within the community. You should have at least one reference (data that illustrate the need and show the reader that this is indeed a problem and a proposal worth funding). (5 points)
Program Description: this is the most important part of the proposal. This section should illustrate the program’s activities. You may want to imagine and include a proposed schedule of how the program will work. This section must also address the problem(s) outlined in your Needs Statement and include the proposed program’s goals/objectives. Please also include how you plan to deal with representation of underrepresented groups. (9 points)
Budget: This section has two parts: 1) a narrative/discussion of how you will use the $600,000 annually and 2) a line item budget including each item. You will use a 33% rate for Fringe for Personnel. Allocate 10% for Administrative overhead. You are not required to include rent in your budget. Include all other consumables, equipment and supplies. (7 points)
Evaluation Plan: How will you evaluate your program? In other words, what data will you collect to see whether or not you have met your goals/objectives. Include a timeline for when you will conduct the evaluation. (4 points)
Future Funding Plans: Your funder will want to know how you plan to sustain this program if funded. As you might imagine, they are not interested in funding something that runs for the three years and then discontinues. You will need to think ahead: where and how will you get future funding and what will this mean for the program? (2 points)
Notes:
1. Because you are writing this paper as if you are writing to a potential funding source, your writing should be formal and, your voice needs to reflect that. Use of the first person is to be kept to a minimum.
2. This paper will require you to utilize the literature pertaining to youth development and/or resiliency with a focus on the age group specified in the RFP. Please cite your sources in APA style.
The paper is worth 35% of your course grade and should be 12-point font, double-spaced, and approximately 10 pages, excluding cover page and references.
