To demonstrate your knowledge of generating significant speech topics, select two topics for each of the three general purposes that are introduced in Chapter 5 of your Public Speaking and Civic Engagement textbook: two topics related to an informative purpose, two topics related to a persuasive purpose, and two topics related to a ceremonial purpose. You may choose any topics that you wish as long as they are relevant to the corresponding general purpose. If you are having difficulty deciding on your topics, please refer to Chapter 5 for further guidance in finding and choosing suitable topics.
To demonstrate your knowledge of generating significant speech topics, select two topics for each of the three general purposes that are introduced in Chapter 5 of your Public Speaking and Civic Engagement textbook
For each of the six topics that you choose, please provide the following information:
• Demonstrate your knowledge of a thesis statement for a speech by writing an explanation in a paragraph.
• Then list the topics under each General Purpose followed by the specific purpose for the chosen topic. (Remember that the specific purpose is different from the general purpose! Please refer to Chapter 5 for an explanation of the difference between the two.)
• Next – Explain how you narrowed down, revised, and determined the important ethical considerations of the topic.
• Last – compose an appropriate thesis statement for the specific purpose of the topic.
To fully answer each of these prompts, you should expect to write approximately 100 words about each of the six topics for a total of approximately 600 words for the final submission. Please submit all six topics in one Microsoft Word document.
