UMGC HCAD 640 A financial analysis of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA)

Learning Goal: I’m working on a accounting project and need the explanation and answer to help me learn.

Develop a financial analysis of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). This assignment is to evaluate the financial and operational health of Hospital Corporation of America (HCA). You may pursue, analyze, and synthesize any information source you choose.

The content should be clear, logical, and report on (at a minimum) the business’ location(s) and competitive market(s). Use of PESTLE and SWOT analysis is encouraged. From a financial perspective, your final presentations should contain analysis and discussion on 2- 3 ratios from each of the primary financial ratio categories (e.g., operating efficiency, liquidity, profitability, and capital structure). A five-year trend analysis – including the most recent year of available information/data – is expected for each ratio selected. Interpret the ratios, financial and market trends and give perspectives on the organization’s strengths and weaknesses.

The intent is to know if the organization is financially sound and has strong long-term growth prospects. Why or why not?

About Hospital Corporation of America

Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) was founded in 1968 by Dr. Thomas Frist Sr., Dr. Thomas Frist Jr., and Jack Massey. HCA was one of the first hospital companies in the United States. The corporation is one of the nation’s leading providers of healthcare services, and it comprises 182 hospitals and more than 2300 sites in 20 states of the United States and the United Kingdom. HCA employs more than 283,000 colleagues (HCA Healthcare, n.d.). The HCA’s key care sites include hospitals, surgery centers, freestanding ERs, urgent care centers, diagnostic centers, walk-in clinics, and physician clinics (Who we are, 2023).

According to Becker’s Review Hospital, HCA Healthcare saw a revenue of $15.5 billion in the fourth quarter of 2022. In 2023, HCA expects total revenue between $61.5 billion and $63.5 billion, which makes the organization an excellent choice to conduct a financial analysis (Cass, 2023).
