I have gone back and forth with my chair prior to submitting to my committee, and the school reviewer mentions I am biased and should not use nurses to make my case. I am having a hard time with that because I do not see myself speaking against nurses but rather using one of their issues as a justification for why this practice is needed. I feel as though I am simply comparing nurses to paramedics to show how paramedics can be more beneficial. I, nor my chair, understand where this reviewer is coming from, and he provided no actual in-text comments with my last submission for a sense of direction as he usually does. Below is what he shared with me, so I am requesting help to get beyond this milestone and get ready for IRB.
Note from School Reviewer (optional): Steven I appreciate your passion. You must step back and be dispassionate in this research. Your personal bias and emotional arguments are limiting your success. The use of paramedics in the ER is a timely and very important discussion. As physician extenders, there is a professional role to explore here. However, you cannot draw on your persona. passion and experience to build the case. The argument for the expanded role must provide information on legal frameworks, training, quality, applicability, and availability of paramedics to staff ER and must stand on its own merit. It is an argument that cannot be built on an impassioned comparison to the nursing profession. Please work with the writing center and ask them to help you build a traditional argument in favor of paramedics, not against nursing. You may want to work with an editor as well. Make an appointment for a One on one with the Writing Center and show them this feedback. Take this opportunity to address this so you can move forward to your valuable research. Cheers Dr B
