Cases should be written with considerable thought. Do not rush through these reports in one afternoon. Exceptional work takes time to read through the material, make notes, and reflect upon the situation.
Answer each question completely. Revise and edit your work.
The cases should be written in report form. Report form is like a research paper. Even though you are responding to specific questions, you do not number your responses, restate the questions, or make separate paragraphs indicating a response to the next question. The case should flow together seamlessly from topic to topic.
Begin by putting the title of the case centered at the top of your Microsoft WORD document. Begin your report beneath the title.
Do not include a cover sheet. Do not type into the drop box directly. Do not use any other word processing program. If the document does not open on demand, you will not receive a grade.
The first paragraph(s) should be a concise explanation of the general topic of the case. Do not add in every little detail. Just paraphrase and highlight the main points of the case. After completing the case, end with a logical conclusion of at least one paragraph. Don’t just stop dead without a conclusion. Points will be lost.
Do NOT refer to yourself or your personal opinion in the report even if the cases asks, “What do you think?”, “What is your opinion?”, etc. Do not insert yourself into the case. Write in third person. Ex: I think The ads were not effective due to them being based on faulty research. In my opinion, The intended audience learned that the research was invalid after the ads aired and word of mouth began discussing them on social media sites.
Add page numbers. Double space your document. Use a 12-pt. font. Use 1” margins. Indent the paragraphs. Do not use block style of paragraphing. Do not double-double space between paragraphs or after the title. Excessive white space indicates a lack of content and an attempt at creating the illusion of meeting the required page count.
Check your grammar, spelling, capitalization, typos, paragraphing, and sentence structure. Use the editor button in WORD for help.
Include a Reference page (APA format – see the Purdue OWL link in the syllabus under “Writing Assignments” section). Reference the case, text, and any other sources you used for your case. Make proper in text citations (APA format) when you quote directly from the case, text, or other sources.
Refer to the rubric attached to the drop box before submitting to be sure you have met each requirement.
Edit and reread your work completely before submitting it. Be sure you follow the APA guidelines for citation. Do not use MLA or “wing it”. Your grade will reflect your efforts and attention to detail.
The report should be between 3-5 pages not including the Reference page.
